A 12V refrigerator running continuously draws roughly 4 to 6 amps per hour, or 50 to 75 amp-hours per day. A water pump, lights, a CPAP machine, and basic electronics add another 20 to 40 amp-hours depending on how much you’re running. It depends on your converter. Many RVs built around 2020 and later include auto-detecting converters that recognize lithium chemistry and adjust their charge profile accordingly. Older converters designed exclusively for lead-acid or AGM batteries may not reach the optimal charge voltage for lithium, which can leave your battery charging to only 80 to 90% of its capacity and affect long-term performance.
Before connecting Thor Lithium batteries to your existing converter, check whether it has a specific LiFePO4 or lithium charging mode. A compatible charger should reach an absorption voltage in the 14.4V to 14.6V range. If your current converter is not compatible, a lithium-specific charger or a DC-to-DC charger is the right solution. Thor Lithium RV batteries accept charge more efficiently than lead-acid, converting more of your available solar power into stored energy with less waste. They also don’t require the float charging that lead-acid batteries need, which simplifies the setup. The key requirement is using a solar charge controller with a LiFePO4 or lithium charging profile.
Most modern MPPT charge controllers include a lithium setting. If your current controller has an adjustable voltage setting, confirm it can be set to the appropriate charge voltage for LiFePO4 chemistry before connecting.
