Ice Fishing Lithium Batteries

Power Your Adventure With Thor

Thor Bolt

Cold Weather. Full Power.

Sub-zero temperatures, long days on the ice, and electronics that need to perform from first hole to last. Lead-acid batteries struggle in the cold and add serious weight to every trip. Thor Lithium doesn't. Lighter, longer-lasting, and built to handle the cold, this is the battery built for hard water season.

Thor Bolt

The Standard for Ice Fishing Electronics

Ice fishing is a different kind of dedication. You're hauling gear across a frozen lake before sunrise, drilling holes in sub-zero temperatures, and asking your electronics to perform flawlessly in conditions that would stop most batteries cold. Thor Lithium is built differently. Lighter than lead-acid by more than half, reliable down to temperatures well below freezing, and capable of running your flasher, sonar, camera, and accessories all day without a second thought. This is the battery built for the ice.

Questions About Ice Fishing Lithium Batteries?

Do lithium batteries work in cold weather?

Yes, and they outperform lead-acid significantly. LiFePO4 batteries maintain a much higher percentage of their rated capacity in freezing temperatures, while lead-acid can lose 30 to 50% once temps drop below freezing. The one caution is charging. Most lithium batteries should not be charged below 32 degrees Fahrenheit without low-temperature protection. If you’re coming off the ice on a brutally cold day, let your battery warm up before putting it on the charger. The BMS will protect it in the meantime.

What size battery do I need for my flasher or fish finder?

For most flashers and standard sonar units, a 12V 10Ah to 20Ah covers a full day comfortably. Running a high-draw forward-facing unit like Livescope or ActiveTarget? Step up to a 30Ah or 48Ah. Check your unit’s amp draw in the specs, multiply by how many hours you plan to fish, and that gives you your minimum capacity. When in doubt, call us and we’ll help you size it right.

Can I charge my lithium battery on the ice or in my ice shack?

Yes, in a heated shack. If the battery’s internal temperature is below 32 degrees, the BMS will prevent charging until it warms up. In extreme cold, bring the battery inside before connecting a charger. Never force a lithium battery to charge when the BMS is restricting it. That protection exists for a reason.

How long will a lithium battery run my ice fishing electronics?

Most flashers draw under 1 amp per hour, making a 10Ah battery more than adequate for a full day with a single unit. Digital sonar and forward-facing systems draw 2 to 4 amps per hour and benefit from a 20Ah to 48Ah battery for all-day use. Because Thor Lithium maintains a flat voltage curve throughout discharge, your electronics stay sharp right up until the battery is nearly empty.

Are lithium batteries worth it for ice fishing?

For anyone spending serious time on the ice, yes. The weight savings alone make a real difference on a long walk across a frozen lake. A lead-acid battery can weigh 15 to 30 pounds. An equivalent Thor Lithium comes in well under 10. Add longer runtime, more consistent cold-weather performance, zero maintenance, and a lifespan measured in thousands of cycles, and the value comparison isn’t close.

How should I store my ice fishing battery in the off-season?

Charge to 50 to 60%, disconnect from all devices, and store in a cool dry location above freezing. Lithium batteries self-discharge very slowly, so a battery stored properly in March will still have solid capacity come November. Do not store fully discharged. An over-discharged lithium battery may not recover enough to take a charge.
