Standard chargers often have “Auto-Desulfation” stages that spike voltage to 15V or 16V to “clean” lead plates. This will trigger a Thor battery’s BMS to shut down instantly to protect itself. A Thor Charger uses a dedicated “Constant Current/Constant Voltage” profile that is 100% safe for lithium.
Yes. If your battery’s BMS shuts down because the voltage got too low (Sleep Mode), a standard charger might not “see” the battery to start charging. Thor Chargers are designed to send a “wake-up” pulse to the BMS to reset it and begin the charging cycle automatically.
Our chargers are optimized for speed. Because lithium batteries can accept a much higher “charge rate” than lead-acid, you can typically go from 0% to 100% in a fraction of the time. For example, a 10A charger will fully charge a 52Ah battery in about 5 hours.
You don’t have to, but you can. Our chargers have smart-logic that stops the flow of power once the battery is full. However, since Thor batteries have such a low self-discharge rate, most owners just charge them up, unplug them, and they are still nearly full when spring rolls around.
